Have You Seen My Keys?
It happens to all of us, especially when we least have time for it. You’re already running late for work or an appointment and now – of all times – you can’t locate your car keys. Panic sets in – now you’re on a frantic search.
What we did in our house to eliminate (yes, I did say eliminate) these frantic searches was to create specific places for certain items. (In this post, I'll just discuss keys.) For us, this place is near the garage entrance since this is where we come and go most frequently. We decided to use some spare carabiners to hold the keys. Some basic hooks on a board in the garage were labeled with my DYMO labelmaker and voila, keys are organized! Our keys always go back in the same place as we enter the house!
Years ago in an apartment building which I lived in, I had mounted a color-coded key organizer inside one of my kitchen cabinets near the back door. This was a great way to organize keys especially since I was managing the other apartments! The key rack (above right) has a more finished look to it but almost anything will work. Amazon sells this one for $8
This key rack also has a place for outgoing mail!
Note: Getting organized doesn't necessarily mean that you have to spend a bundle on new things! We completed this project by using the materials and items we already had around the house.
